Building a Sustainable Future
Buildings, including residential homes, account for 18 percent of Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, energy-efficient retrofits play a crucial role in the country’s journey toward a sustainable future. The Canada Greener Homes Grant is a seven-year initiative designed to be one of the cornerstones of Canada’s energy transformation. It is projected to generate over 110,000 direct and indirect jobs across the country, building on the already impressive 436,000 direct jobs created by the energy efficiency sector in 2018.
The Benefits for Homeowners
Participating in the Canada Greener Homes Grant offers numerous benefits for homeowners, including:
- Cost Savings: The grant provides financial support ranging from $125 to $5,000, allowing homeowners to recoup a portion of their eligible home retrofit costs.
- EnerGuide Evaluations: Homeowners can receive a maximum contribution of up to $600 towards the total expenses of their pre-and post-retrofit EnerGuide evaluations, ensuring that the upgrades deliver the desired energy efficiency.
- Comfortable Homes: By making energy-efficient upgrades, homeowners can enjoy improved comfort levels within their homes, including enhanced insulation, better air-sealing, and upgraded windows and doors.
- Affordability: Energy-efficient retrofits help reduce monthly energy bills, providing homeowners with long-term savings and a more affordable home.
- Healthier Planet: By significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions, homeowners contribute to a healthier planet and support Canada’s commitment to meeting its climate change goals.
