Do You Need to Call an HVAC Repair Specialist?

If you are like most other homeowners, chances are that you seldom pay attention to your cooling unit until it fails. Once your air conditioner dies on you, you will need to pinpoint the issue and get it sorted out immediately lest it will blow out of proportion. Read on to know more about how to diagnose your air conditioner and when to call HVAC contractors in Cambridge, Ontario, for repair work.

When to Call an HVAC Repair Specialist?

Your Cooling Unit Isn’t Kicking On

The main culprit is the thermostat if your cooling unit does not function efficiently when it is warm in your home. The first thing you must do is to check if the thermostat is toggled to Cool, and that it is in Auto mode and not Fan mode. If this does not solve the issue, check to see if the breaker of your unit has not been tripped or if a fuse has not blown. Even after making these changes, if your unit does not turn on, it is wise to call in an HVAC contractor for advice.

Warm Air is Coming from Vents

Air conditioners are designed to blow cool air, no matter how hot outdoors. However, if your cooling unit is running, but the air coming out of the vents is warm, it could be due to a faulty thermostat or a refrigerant leak. As in the first step, turn your thermostat to Cool and Auto. Else, your blower will keep the moving air around without cooling it. The next step is to check if the filters on your unit are clean. Inspect the filters and clear out any debris around the outdoor condenser unit as well. This should resolve the issue. If not, call in an HVAC mechanic to diagnose the problem.

Your Cooling Unit Cycles on and Off Too Quickly

It is not uncommon for homeowners to leave their air conditioner on when they step out, hoping to get back to a cool and comfortable home. But if your air conditioner turns itself off before it cools the house to your desired temperature, you are likely dealing with either low levels of refrigerant, dirty air filters, or a poorly located thermostat. Check your air filters and replace them if they are dirty. But, if that does not resolve the issue, next check if your thermostat is installed over an air register. Moving your thermostat may fix the issue. If none of these quick fixes do the trick, you must call an HVAC technician to check your air conditioner’s refrigerant levels.

Ice on Your Condenser Unit

Another reason why your air conditioner may not be functioning properly could be a frozen condenser. A frozen condenser can lead to restricted airflow. This means that the refrigerant passing through the copper tubing of your unit is too cold and causing condensation to form. This could happen due to blocked return vents or even dirty air filters. To get to the root cause and fix it, inspect all your vents. Ensure they are all uncovered and open and that your air filters are clean. Next, defrost your cooling unit by turning the thermostat to Fan and On mode and allowing the blower to move air through the unit to thaw it. If this does not sort out the problem, and you find more condensation build-up, you must connect with reliable Heating and Cooling Cambridge.
