What Are the Common AC Problems?

Summer is about to come, and it will soon be time to rely on our air conditioners to do their magic. 90% of homeowners in the United States use some air conditioning. Most will agree that while air conditioning units are in most cases reliable, they do tend to develop snags from time to time and require repair. It mostly happens when it is time to turn on the unit after many months of dormancy. Listed below are some common AC problems that you must watch out for, and call in a reliable air conditioning service in Milton, ON, or an air conditioning repair provider to resolve the issue.

Water Leak Indoors

This is an obvious one. If you find water leaking down your unit, you may be in trouble. It indicates that maintenance is overdue. In most cases, an air conditioning unit springs a leak when the condensate drain gets clogged due to fungi or algae build-up, which causes the water to back up the pipe and leak out of the unit. A leak can also be due to a broken condensate drain, which will warrant an immediate replacement.

Water Leak Outdoors

If you find a puddle of water by the outdoor unit right under the compressor, you could be dealing with either a broken condensate pan, a dry air filter, improper insulation, or even a bad seal. Thankfully, these are issues you can quickly fix. However, it is important not to procrastinate and put away the repair as this can cause more complex issues that will be expensive to fix.

Dirty AC filter

Your air conditioner filter plays a vital role in keeping the airflow clean. When the filter gets clogged, airflow is restricted. A dirty filter also adds pressure to the unit and reduces its efficiency. It is, therefore, indispensable that you check your owner’s manual and follow manufacturer recommendations on when you should clean and replace air filters. Most manufacturers recommend changing air filters once every four months. If you have allergies or have pets at home, you will do good in replacing them once every three months.

Frozen Evaporator Coil

If your air conditioner fails to work overnight, you could be dealing with a frozen evaporator coil. Your evaporator coil freezes when your cooling unit does not receive sufficient air it needs to operate. When this happens, your air conditioner will freeze up and cease to work. Allow the evaporator to thaw for 24 hours and check to see if the unit kicks back on. If thawing does not fix the issue, you may have to look out for an air conditioner servicing near you.

Other common air conditioner issues include AC fan failure, refrigerant leak, and failure of electrical control. If you are not able to diagnose and fix the issue, fret not. Contact B.A.P.
