Why Does My Furnace Keep Shutting Off?

Generally, the gas furnace will cycle on and off 3-8 times each hour to keep the home at a reasonable temperature. It’s a common problem if a furnace keeps turning ON and OFF. Short cycling is the term for this problem. It puts a burden on your heating system, potentially resulting in costly repairs or untimely replacements. So, look now for furnace repair in Cambridgebut before that, you can also check what is wrong with the furnace. To know more, read below:

Air Filters

The heat exchanger in your furnace requires a steady stream of air to cool. The heat exchanger will overheat if the airflow is hindered, causing the safety shutdown to occur. If you don’t change the filter regularly, it may become clogged, reducing airflow.

To prevent the furnace from becoming too hot, a safety system turns it down. To keep your furnace from short cycling, change the filter every three months from now on.

Thermostat

It is the control center for your HVAC system, and it tells the furnace how to run. Ascertain that the thermostat is set to heating and auto fan and that the required temperature is displayed on the screen. Replace the batteries and see what happens. Also, make sure the thermostat isn’t in direct sunlight or too close to a heat source, as this could affect the temperature reading. If this does not work out for you, look for heater repair in Rockwood.

Flame Detector

The flame detector is a safety feature that turns off your furnace if no flames are detected, saving you from potentially harmful gas emissions. Even if your furnace is working properly, if the flame sensor becomes rusted or covered with soot, it will not detect flames. As a result, the furnace is turned off by the sensor.

Size of Furnace

Everything large may not necessarily be good. An enormous system heats your home too quickly, causing uncomfortable temperature swings and short cycles. This short-cycle pattern will not give the level of home comfort you desire, and it will also be difficult on your furnace. Installing a new furnace is the only way to remedy this situation.

Blower Wheel

The blades of the furnace blower circulate air through the ductwork. The air will not move properly if they are covered in dirt, resulting in overheating and short cycling. The simplest way to avoid a filthy blower wheel is to replace the filter regularly.

Air Vents

A clogged filter isn’t the only thing that might stifle airflow and cause your furnace to overheat. Check for closed or blocked air vents as you walk around your house. Maintain all registers open, even in idle rooms, for proper system balance and efficiency.
